How important is word order in Spanish? Are there rules that apply to Spanish word order?
I wrote: Todos mañana son los cinco levanto y me desayuno.
and a friend corrected me and said I should have written it as:
Todas las mañanas a las cinco, me levanto y desayuno.
Which is correct? Is one word order here preferred over another?
Gracias por tu ayuda.

What your friend said was correct.
I think you are trying to say, "Every morning I wake up and eat breakfast at five o'clock."
Every morning is "todas las mañanas". "Son las cinco" means "it is five o'clock". This is used if you want to tell the time. If you want to say what time something takes place, you need to use "a la" or "a las". Levantarse is a reflexive verb, so to say "I get up", you say "me levanto". If you want to say that you eat breakfast, you can use simply "desayuno" or in some places they use it as a reflexive verb and say, "me desayuno" . Either way it is fine, but I hear "desayuno" more often than "me desayuno". I think it has a lot to do with where the person is from.

You could also say, "Todas las mañanas me levanto y desayuno a las cinco." You could also say, "A las cinco de la mañana, me levanto y desayuno." That is "At five in the morning, I get up and eat breakfast." It would be understood that this is a habitual thing.

I hope this helps.

Order in spanish is important and completely different to english. Your friend is the correct one. Why? First of all, "Todos" is referring to the morning, and morning is a female word in spanish, so you must write "todas". "mañanas" must be written in plural because this word refers to all mornings, so it goes "todas las mañanas". (las) is written also because after the subject, the article (articulo) must go in written spanish. Then you can say "a las cinco me levanto y desayuno" but your friend is also a little bit wrong, because you can't use a comma there, if you use it they are like separated sentences and it is not necessary to put that comma. Finally, "me levanto y desayuno" follows that order, because you must specify that you are the one who wake up on the first verb then you can skip writing again that you are the one who takes the breakfast "me desayuno".
