-When we ask about the place where someone was, the two sentences are correct:
¿Dónde estabas?: is common in formal situation, for asking to an adult or elderly people, and for asking about the location when someone were time ago.
¿Dónde estuviste?: is common in informal situation or for asking to someone the place when he was few minutes before.

-How was your day?: the common form for asking is ¿como estuvo tu día?, the other form isn't incorrect, we the native speaker understand perfectly both question, but ¿como estaba tu día? sound little rare for us.

PD: any correction about my English please said me. Bye.

Bueno se puede preguntar de las dos maneras, en el primer caso, es correcto decir ¿Dònde estabas? o ¿ dònde estuviste?. y en el segundo caso lo correcto es decir ¿ Còmo estuvo tu dia?

Hello lovlycare.

1) Boy, this is a tough question, because (especially in an informal context) I use them interchangeably.

If you want me to be a little bit more specific, I'd say that "Estaba" involves a longer time period, and "Estuviste" involves a specific, precise moment.

¿Dónde estabas? would be the most common one, and ¿Dónde estuviste? would be like a question from your parents haha.

2) Well, between those two ¿cómo estuvo tu día? is the right one.

However, there are many ways to say "how was your day?" I'll list a few:

¿Cómo fue tu día?

¿Qué tal ha ido el día?

¿Qué tal estuvo tu día?

¿Cómo te fue hoy? <---- That's the one I use

As you might see there are many ways to say the same thing!

Take care... bye

Hola, mira las dos formas son correctas para este caso. Donde estabas? o Donde estuviste?where were you?
y para how was your day? la mas comun y usada seria ¿como estuvo tu dia?.
